Ranma was the anime that hooked me on anime. I discovered it in the last decade when I was still in my fifties. I kept getting flashbacks of Ranma1/2, so did some digging. Romiko Tahahashi came up as creating both!!! Love it so far. Will see if I can find the original and compare!

While they changed the opening, they def played the original theme a few times in this episode. I thought it was a cute tribute.

Back in my childhood, the only thing I recall is how I believed To Love-Ru was copying this anime (or the creators of To Love-Ru, was probably inspired by it)

This show is a huge influence to every romcom made afterwards, so it's not only Love-Ru that's influenced by it.

To Love Ru is like the hentai version of this. And both are acceptable to me.

Kentaro is the illustrator. Not the author. The author of TLR is Saki Hasemi. Yabuki Kentaro is the manga artist

well its one of the grandfathers of the romecome ecchi anime garner itself so i wouldn't be surprised for To Love-Ru and UFO Princess Valkyrie to be heavy inspired by this one
